Our Services

Paediatric neurosurgery provides fetal counselling for abnormalities of the Central Nervous System (brain & spine) alongside our fetal medical team. We provide on average around 20 consultations per year. The Ian Donald Fetal Medicine Centre receives regional and national referrals for fetal assessment, management and delivery and holds the national contract for the provision of interventional fetal therapy. Common antenatal abnormalities  we counsel for include open spina bifida (myelomeningocele), ventriculomegaly and intracranial cysts.

 An In-Utero Myelomeningocele Closure Service is active for Scotland with the surgical intervention performed by our colleagues in Leuven, Belgium. A well-established programme is in action at our unit for potential patients. There is excellent collaboration between the Glasgow and Leuven teams in caring for these patients
